Fish farming

Completely automated and equipped with state-of-the-art technology, PP Orahovica’s fish ponds are integrated into a single system which enables automated feeding and monitoring of all fish farming processes. In our own spawning ponds, we choose only top-quality, native carp fingerlings that are traditionally present in these areas. Good-quality feed given to the fish ensures that their flesh has a high protein content, while the laboratory equipped with the newest water quality monitoring equipment ensures maximum usage of natural food and the creation of ideal conditions for farming healthy and high-quality fish.

Fish processing

The fish grown by PP Orahovica are processed at state-of-the-art facilities and strict controls of biological, chemical and physical risks are exercised during the entire process. The fish are processed under our own brand – Panona Mare. The range of products that we put on the market comprises fresh, frozen, smoked and crumbed fish products, including whole fish, fish steaks, fillets, smoked carp, fish spreads, burgers and chips.

Fish species

In PP Orahovica’s fish ponds, fish are farmed in polyculture conditions, meaning that in addition to the primary species of fish, secondary or additional species of fish are also farmed. In our own freshwater fish hatchery, the dominant species is the common carp, but grass carp, bighead carp, silver carp, wels catfish, northern pike and zander are also farmed.

Fish and human nutrition

Fish meat has a high biological value and its advantage compared to red meat is that it is more easy to digest. Therefore, even sick persons can eat fish, which is why fish meat is classified as a dietetic food in many countries. Fish meat also contains all other nutrients (vitamins and minerals), which is why it is regarded as a complete food. Due to its low-fat content and recognisable light taste, Orahovica’s carp is known for its excellence and is an extremely popular product. Also, due to its exceptional quality, Orahovica’s carp has been awarded the “Croatian Creation” (“Izvorno hrvatsko”) label. Find out more
